3rd Annual Backbeat Jazzfest Concert Series Announces Initial Line-Up

New Orleans, LA - The 3rd Annual Backbeat Jazzfest Concert Series has announced their lineup including “The Royal Family Ball” with Soulive, Lettuce and special guests at Republic (the old Howlin’ Wolf) on May 1; “The Trombone Blowout” with Big Sam’s Funky Nation & Bonerama, also on May 1 at Tipitina’s French Quarter; Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue at the Blue Nile on May 2; Dirty Dozen Brass Band @ Tipitina’s French Quarter on May 3 and 10 more shows. The Backbeat Jazzfest Concert Series is co-produced by New York City-based independent concert promoters Creative Entertainment Group and New Orleans-based Hypersoul. A Red Light Look at New Orleans

A chronologic history of bawdy old New Orleans, including the correctional girls, the casket girls, quadroon balls, Storyville other red light districts, the Blue Books, jazz and prominent personalities. A lecture presented by Pamela Arceneaux, Rare Books Librarian at the Historic New Orleans Collection.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 6:00PM at the Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal Street, New Orleans. The lecture is free for SOC members. A contribution of $5.00 is suggested for non-members.

The Competition is Heating Up for the Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off



New Orleans –Twelve of Louisiana’s most talented chefs are sharpening their knives, because Saturday’s Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off presented by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board (LSPMB) is drawing near. Doors open at 1 p.m., on May 24, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.



The competition is presented as part of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE) Grand Tasting event. Each chef will have up to one hour to stir, sizzle and sauté their Louisiana seafood dish. At 3:30 p.m., after the judges have tasted and tallied, one lucky chef will be crow...
