Learn more about the traditional art of water gilding and try your hand at
oil gilding, as well as other gilding techniques.
A replica of a French trophy frame from the Mount Vernon collection,
reconstructed by Gold Leaf Studios and French artisans for the
French-American Cultural Foundation, will be on display and used to
demonstrate water gilding techniques. The original trophy frame was given
to George Washington by Louis XVI in 1791. The replica of the frame is being
crafted using traditional techniques as part of an artisan exchange
program between France and America.
