Southern Decadence started forty-seven years ago as a simple going-away party but now it’s one of the largest annual festivals in New Orleans, and has become known as the "Gay Mardi Gras." Festivities usually begin on the Wednesday before Labor Day, and generally end until the following Tuesday.
Attendance in 2017 broke all records, with over 210,000 gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender participants, raking in an estimated $250 million. Recently ranked #2 in Travel + Leisure's list of America's Best Cities for Gay Travel , New Orleans is the perfect city to let the good times roll in.
The biggest day is Sunday, Sept. 2 when the grand marshalls will lead the annual walking parade through the streets beginning at 2 p.m. under this year's theme, "House of Bourbon - Unleash Your Beast.”
Come enjoy the Southern Decadence festivities and don't forget to “unleash your beast!”
