The largest cruise ship based in New Orleans year-round, the 2,758-passenger Carnival Triumph, will launch four-, five- and seven-day departures from the Crescent City starting next week.
The 102,000-ton Triumph will kick off the new program Tuesday at the Erato Street Cruise Terminal, and at 4 p.m. it will depart on its first cruise from New Orleans.
Four-day cruises departing Thursdays visit Cozumel, five-day cruises departing Mondays and Saturdays visit Cozumel and Progreso and seven-day cruises departing Saturdays call on Belize, Roatan and Cozumel or Key West, Freeport and Nassau.
The 893-foot-long Triumph features 13 decks, four restaurants, 18 lounges and bars, a miniature golf course, four swimming pools and a 214-foot-long waterslide, among other things.
Port of New Orleans spokesman Chris Bonura said the new service is a “milestone” because Carnival hasn’t offered week-long cruises since Hurricane Katrina.
“It’s the ongoing recovery of the cruise industry,” Bonura said. “There was a lot of pent-up demand for it.”
