The hotel-restaurant would include a four-story building and a nine-story building in the 600 blocks of Tchoupitoulas and Commerce streets, near the Piazza d'Italia and a short walk from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, according to records submitted to city planners.
The property owner, Warren Reuther, said he is not part of the development group and is selling the property. Reuther, a longtime tourism developer in New Orleans who previously owned the Ambassador Hotel, said the land is under contract.
A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that Reuther was the developer of the project. This story was updated on April 1, 2014, at 8:20 a.m. to correct the error. According to records submitted to the city, the developer is Fillmore Hospitality, based in Ohio and California. The proposal indicates that developers are pursuing the Choice Hotels brand Cambria Suites, which caters to business travelers.
The four-story section would be 45 feet tall and face Tchoupitoulas Street. The nine-story section would be 95-feet tall and face Commerce Street.
