The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau released its calendar of events for the third quarter and included a count of 400,000 attendees for the Essence Musical Festival that took place over the weekend.
The NOCVB also points out that the next few months also include events geared toward locals, including the Coolinary and Text NOLA promotions that are aimed toward driving customers to restaurants and hotels.
Other events planned through Sept. 30 include the following:
Event: American Society of Animal Science Societies Joint ADSA & ASAS Annual Meeting
When: July 10-13
Who’s coming: ASAS is a group of animal nutritionists, representing 13 state agricultural experiment stations and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, with a focus on animal nutrition research.
Event: Destination Marketing Association International Convention
When: July 20-22
Who’s coming: DMAI comprises more than 2,800 professionals from nearly 650 destination marketing organizations in over 30 countries.
Event: Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games
When: July 30-Aug, 5
Who’s coming: The AAU athletes and their families.
Event: Disabled American Veterans Summer National Convention
When: Aug. 4-8
Who’s coming: The 1.2 million-member DAV is a nonprofit serving America’s disabled veterans and their families.
Event: Louisiana Restaurant Association Food Service Expo
When: Aug. 5-7
Who’s coming: LRA members, culinary professionals and vendors serving their industry
Event: Helen Brett Enterprises International Jewelry Fair/General Merchandise Show
When: Aug. 9-14
Who’s coming: Vendors and thousands of bargain-savvy retail insiders
Event: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Small Business Conference
When: Aug. 15-17
Attendees: 3,500 attendees
Who’s coming: VA representatives and small business interests who stand to gain work from the administration’s projects
Event: MechaCon VII Anime Convention
When: Aug. 26-27
Who’s coming: Enthusiasts in the art form that bridges the genres of Anime and Transformers with Japanese cultural exhibits, panels and presentations.
Event: Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association National Conference
When: Aug. 28-31
Who’s coming: The VPPPA provides occupational safety, health and environmental leaders with networking and educational offerings.
Event: National Association for College Admission Counseling National Conference
When: Sept. 21-24
Who’s coming: Counseling and enrollment professionals.
Also ahead this summer are the Satchmo Summerfest and Southern Decadence, which the NOCVB says routinely draw large crowds to the city during the peak of summer.
