Severn Avenue in Metairie is anticipating more overnight and extended-stay travelers, with two new luxury hotels currently under construction and the existing Best Western undergoing major renovations.

Hotel owners and real estate analysts say they expect growth in the area to continue as business along the corridor increases. Consultant Wade Ragas called it the highest-demand intersection in Jefferson Parish, with the causeway and Jefferson Highway intersecting and allowing easy access from the interstate and the city.

Al Copeland Investments is renovating its signature 17-story Best Western Plus Landmark, located at 2601 Severn Ave., at a cost of about $16 million, according to CEO and chairman Al Copeland Jr.

The renovations include an additional 95 extended-stay condo suites and corporate headquarters on the top floor. Copeland Investments plans a ribbon-cutting within the next month.
