In mid-December, chef Phillip Lopez (Root, Square Root) opened Petit Lion, his contemporary French bistro at the new Troubadour hotel. On Wednesday (Dec. 28), Lopez also debuted the Monkey Board, the hotel's 17th-floor rooftop bar, just in time for the new year:

1. At the Monkey Board, Lopez created a menu of "food truck" fare, like chilaquiles ($9), a fried chicken sandwich ($12) and a lobster dog ($13). For dessert, you can order a slice of birthday cake ($4). (See a PDF of the full opening menu)

2. T. Cole Newton of Twelve Mile Limit created the cocktail list at the Monkey and at the second-floor Lobby Lounge.

3. The Monkey Board, named after the highest platform on an oil rig, will host DJs and live music. "We're all commercial buildings all the way around," Lopez said, "so we can party into the early morning."

4. Originally, Lopez wanted to put an actual food truck on the roof of the hotel, but the city said no.

The rooftop bar is open Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
