New Orleans makes latest tourism sales pitch in South America

New Orleans tourism officials recently returned from a trip to Colombia as part of ongoing efforts to recruit business in South America.

In late March, the New Orleans Convention and Visitor’s Bureau organized a sales mission to Colombia, securing Copa Airlines as a key sponsor and partner while marketing Louisiana’s tax-free shopping initiative. Copa Airlines has been operating a direct flight from Panama to New Orleans for the past two years.

The trip included a networking lunch with a presentation on New Orleans to leisure tour operators and media.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has ranked Colombia No. 13 in its top 20 countries in 2015 for growth. The department anticipates Colombian travelers to the United States to increase through 2021. An estimated 888,000 visitors are predicted to travel to the U.S. by 2018.
