The city of New Orleans will weigh the merits of five development groups proposing a redevelopment plan for a pair of city-owned surface parking lots surrounding the Piazza d’Italia in the Central Business District.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s administration today released the initial plans it obtained from the groups following a “request for qualifications” issued in May. The city is seeking an experienced real estate developer to lead a “first class commercial and/or mixed-use project” at 542 Tchoupitoulas St. and 545 S. Peters St. that would take better advantage of the public Piazza space, which sits tucked away among surrounding hotels and office towers.
