The Red Hat Society Celebrates 20 Years

The Red Hat Society paints the city red in New Orleans for their 2018 International Convention. The Convention will be held August 2 - 5, 2018 at the New Orleans Marriott.

The City of New Orleans and The Red Hat Society have something in common. The good times will roll as both celebrate an anniversary. While New Orleans celebrates the tricentennial, the Hatters celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The Red Hat Society is a “playgroup” for women from different walks of life. It was created to connect like-minded women, foster new friendships and embrace the power of fun.

Their signature red hats and purple outfits always make a statement. Inspired by the poem “Warning” by Jenny Joseph, "When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple, with a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me." Founder Sue Ellen encouraged her friend to grow older in a playful manner by gifting her a red hat.

Hatters who have reached the age of 50, “Red Hatters,” wear red hats and purple clothing, while those under 50, “Pink Hatters,” wear pink hats and lavender clothing. The attire symbolizes that maturing women will no longer be invisible to society.

Laissez le bon temps rouler, ladies!
