See inside Kimpton Hotels’ new property in downtown New Orleans

A boutique hotel brand has returned to New Orleans to renovate a hotel at the corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas streets.

San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is opening the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot where Staybridge Suites has operated. The new 202-room hotel will have a signature restaurant and bar and corner café when it opens early next year, a news release said.

The property was acquired last year by JMI Realty LLC along with three adjacent historic buildings. The private real estate investment and development company has spent the past year working on the structures with the help of MarkZeff Architecture and Interior Design and Delawie Architecture. Palmisano is the general contractor.

Kimpton last operated the Hotel Monaco in New Orleans 15 years ago. Other renovations of historic structures have included the Gray Hotel in Chicago, the Schofield in Cleveland, Ohio and the Cardinal in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Kimpton and JMI Realty opened the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, Texas in 2015. There are over 25 Kimpton hotels in 20 markets in the U.S. and internationally.
